The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. (Eph. 4:11-13)

Adult Formation

In pursuit of the goal of equipping the saints for the work of ministry, Varina Episcopal Church offers a variety of adult formation opportunities to all interested. With so many options for continuing education and deepening faith, there is bound to be something for everyone!

Varina Church Speaker Series

On the first Sunday of each month, after the Sunday service, Varina Church hosts a speaker from the Richmond area who will present on a variety of topics. For 2026-2027, the theme of the Speaker Series is:​

Book Study

Each Sunday at 9 am, please join us for a Book Study on a variety of titles on aspects of Christian faith and life.  This Fall, we will be exploring A Generous Orthodoxy by Brian McLaren. From the back of the book:

Bible Study

Each Thursday at 10:30 am, please join us for a Bible Study on sections of Scripture.  This August, we will working through the Book of Ruth, a story of loyalty and loving-kindness in the face of unspeakable odds. 

We will explore not only the historical and cultural aspects of the work, but also will consider how the theology expressed in the Book of Ruth can help inform our lives as Christians in current times.
