Children's Formation

Nursery

Nursery is provided for all children ages 0-6 during Services on Sunday. The Nursery is located at the front of the Parish Hall and is staffed on Sundays from 9:30-11:30 am.

Nursery workers are all trained in Safe Church protocol and are happy to provide a safe and welcoming environment for little ones during the service.

Softspace
We believe that children belong in worship! So, our church sanctuary has a Children's Softspace filled with quiet toys, coloring materials, and books. This allows children to move around and be active all while hearing the word of God and being a part of our community as we worship.

Children's Homily

At the beginning of each Sunday service, the Vicar invites all children to the front of the church for a special Children's Homily. This homily is rooted in the scripture readings for the day and helps children connect the lessons from scripture to their own lives.

Sunday School

We have a fun and vibrant biblically-based Sunday School program with special lesson plans designed for our young children (ages 4-9) and youth (10-14). Sunday School is optional and offered during worship. Following a children’s homily from our Vicar, children are welcome to remain in church for the scriptures, sermon and prayers or they can join the other children in Sunday school for those 20 minutes (returning to the main service for communion with their families). Our Sunday School lessons are designed by trained educators with emphasis on scripture, using play, hands-on activities, music and movement. All teachers are Safe Church Certified. Contact the church office for a monthly lesson plan and we will gladly answer any questions you may have!

Youth

Varina Church is connected with a number of youth organizations through the Diocese of Virginia. Our youth frequently participate in service learning and summer retreats, particularly to the Diocesan retreat center in Shrinemont.
